Everyone has experienced stress, no matter how small. For a while, I struggled finding windows in the week to treat myself, but I have finally mastered my self-care routine! As it turns out, there are many quick, easy ways to rejuvenate throughout the day. Even the smallest acts of self-care might just give you the boost you’ve been needing!
A Bouquet Goes a Long Way
Not many people get as excited as I do about flowers, but I know how happy I feel when I’m holding a bright, beautiful bouquet in my arms, or simply when I pass by it on my way out the door each day. Whenever I have had a tougher week or am simply in the mood for a small pick-me-up, I buy some flowers on my way out of the grocery store. During fall and winter, the weather can remain overcast for quite some time, and adding a little color to your life can do more than you think.
Be Sweet to Yourself
Everyone I know can be a little kinder to themselves. It can be very difficult not to compare yourself to others, and it is surprisingly easy to put yourself down for even the smallest things. If you take the time to turn around any negative comment you make about yourself into a positive one, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, I guarantee you will notice a positive difference. And though it may take some time to get used to, it will be very worth your while.
Treat Yourself
I usually find myself practicing self-care at night since I’m at work during the day. And for many, working overtime can become so frequent that self-care might not even seem like an option. However, taking just a little time before bed to treat yourself can make all the difference. Putting on a face mask or sipping on a nice cup of tea always helps me wind down from a hard day.
Laugh it Out
If I am getting ready for work, doing the dishes or exercising, I love putting on my favorite funny podcast, audiobook, or even Netflix show in the background. It is a productive way to squeeze in a laugh during chores or before heading to work. This is my favorite tip to practice because it relieves me the most, and is a good reminder that simply a smile can uplift your mood.
Spread the Love
I am so lucky to have the parents and friends I do, because even a quick text conversation or brief phone call can make all the difference in my day. Even just short, sweet texts to your loved ones throughout the week can be more beneficial than you might think – not only for you, but for them as well. I have found that sending a quick message or a funny emoji to a loved one simply when you’re thinking about them boosts positivity on both ends, and paves the way for happier days.
